when you ban guns two things happen
1) only criminals have guns if you make them illegal, this is especially bad because America isn't an island so it can literally be smuggled over the Mexican border, even in Australia smuggled guns are a big thing
2) people will just use knives and people who aren't big enough ratbags to carry knives with them in public will just get stabbed

Actually, such laws are already in place in the US, but not always in Europe.
In some European country a violent convicted will get a harsher sentence for driving 80 km/h instead of 50 km/h than possessing an illegal firearm. Not talking that in many European states it's quite hard to get a gun permit for the law-abiding citizens, but thankfully Europe is full of different laws, in some Nations it's even easier than in some States in the US.

Did you know, per example, that in many European countries buying a silencer is either out of the corner or just with a gun permit (and are mostly unregistered), while in the US you need a Federal Class 3 permit that could take months to get and you're the only one allowed to own it?
