Chinese damage control after they extended their covid lockdowns too much and killed their tourism industry/commerce. Literally kicked all the foreigners out during covid also because they were paranoid the business men were spy’s. Now no one shows up for their trade fairs except poor African nations which they can’t make as much money compared to the USA/Europe.
But I would not go to China still because if you get with a travel agency to go to sight seeing there is a scam where they take you on a bus for like a hour to the place then the next 2 hours is going to the shops where you are pressured to buy their merchandise.

I've heard that China is started to get some prominence with sexpats, since the well-established sexpat countries like Cambodia and Thailand have become way less welcoming of them, both legally and culturally. It must be tricky to do it in an Orwellian dictatorship like China, but looks like they're finding ways. They probably go to the countryside.
