Reading this ruined my day. The exact same thing happened to me and i got NOTHING because my parents didnt sue. I'm not sure if a mogen clamp was used, but from what I hear when I was born that was the most common method.
That said, that kid probably isn't getting anything either. It said the company "went out of business" after the lawsuit. That means they filed for bankruptcy, which completely wipes out any debts from civil lawsuits. This is usually what happens with these multi-million dollar lawsuits that get "won". They're rarely ever actually paid out.
