I think US should just make a deal with him, he leaves presidency but gets allowed to escape to Cuba. I don't think invading a country (even if the government is terrible as this case) is ok.

Yes, but you're letting your opinion of Maduro make the judgement here. US is attack Venezuela based on bullshit reasons (narcoterrorism) and sketchy evidence. They've bombed people without evidence. If this is left alone what's stopping US from attacking other countries based on the same false claims? This article has more to do with the cult of personality surrounding Chávez, and later Maduro, than with any ideological ties to Maoism. Sure, Chávez was venerated after his death, but so is every national hero; this is not exclusive to Maoism. If Donald Trump (God forbid) were to die tomorrow and one of his associates hosted a state funeral, the entire MAGA movement would be out on the streets bawling their eyes out not because Trump is Mao, but because they loved him as their leader.

The current Venezuelan administration is hardly comparable to Maoist China, as it has neither undergone a Cultural Revolution nor engaged in a protracted people’s war to seize power. Chávez first attempted to gain power through a failed coup, and was later elected president using the machinery of the bourgeois state something MLMs consider almost heretical. One could make the argument that Venezuela’s government would be Maoist only if Chávez and Maduro had overthrown the existing system through a popular revolution akin to what happened in Cuba.

TLDR
It cannot be Maoist because the state hasn't undergone any significant development associated with Maoism. It builds of Venezuelan nationalism, Catholicism and was given power by means of democratic election and NOT violent revolution.
