News Update: Federal judge releases incel YouTuber Malik "Smooth" Sanchez from home detention

In a six-word order signed today, U.S. District Judge Colleen McMahon removed Malik "Smooth" Sanchez's home detention requirement from his bail conditions.



One year ago, in February 2021, Sanchez was livestreaming in Manhattan. According to an FBI agent's affidavit and a YouTube recording of his livestream (which has since been removed), Sanchez made a bomb threat against two femoids:



Two months later, the FBI arrested Sanchez at his family's Brooklyn home on one count of "false information and hoaxes concerning an act of terrorism". A federal magistrate judge ordered him jailed until trial, but Judge McMahon later overruled the magistrate judge's decision and granted Sanchez bail.

Sanchez pleaded guilty to the aforementioned charge in November 2021 and will be sentenced on April 6th, 2022. Although he faces a statutory maximum of five years' imprisonment, the federal sentencing guidelines advises a sentence of probation, or probation with home detention, in the particular circumstances of this case. Sanchez's public defender, Clay Kaminsky, graduated from Harvard College and NYU Law School.

Today, Judge McMahon instituted a curfew in lieu of Sanchez's home detention requirement, so Sanchez could attend martial arts classes. Judge McMahon had previously modified the internet access condition of Sanchez's bail so he could complete his GED. It is an encouraging sign that she is considering a lenient sentence.
