Do you guys know what's worse than being an incel in an economically developed country with a modern healthcare system and good universities? With a relatively independent judiciary, relatively protected civil liberties, interest group pluralism, and regular elections?

Being an incel in a third-world shithole run by a corrupt, tinpot dictatorship.

I spent the last few days in mainland China and really missed London and NYC.

I am not ricecel but I believe due to Dengist reforms, China is as capitalist(if not more than) as America, so you can be wealthy easily but you are indeed still spied on and they try to hide failures of the CCP(such as Cultural Revolution and Tienanmen Square)

I was born in Hong Kong and spent some of my childhood there, but also lived in Singapore, Boston, NYC, and am now in England. Some of my extended family lives in China so I went over to visit them for a few days.

China's a big country. Those on the top of the social ladder live in a few glittering cities: Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, etc. This is what most tourists see. The next 10% or so live a humdrum, lower-middle-class life in smaller neighboring cities. Most people are rural peasants or slaving away in a factory. Reaching the top of the social ladder depends on where you are and who your parents are. It's more unequal than most of the West. You're largely correct.

What I really hated was censorship. I couldn't even access Wikipedia. I could access this site, but knowing that the authorities could whisk me away if someone important saw and disliked what I wrote was an uneasy feeling.

"The west" is a nebulous boogeyman. First, the term is weird, because places you've lived like Hong Kong and Singapore are definitely part of "the west" despite being in the east. "The west" has come to represent globalism and the accompanying decay in culture and community, and it's spreading and will continue to spread because that's what those things do. It can provide certain people very comfortable lives (if you lived in NYC or London you were probably one of those people), but is alienating and dehumanizing (the reason that those people who live such lives of comfort and privilege all take a fistful of meds a day to keep from roping themselves) because we're not made for the comfort or constant dopamine spikes and crashes that the modern world is optimized for. It doesn't provide fulfillment and probably never will, even for the current generation of kids born into it and knowing nothing else.

If you live in the West, the best place to be is a small rural agricultural community as disconnected from big cities as its possible to be.
