Ukrainians suffer for the sins of their ancestors, particularly Bohdan Khmelnytsky.

The whole war that the Ukrainians are enduring is a result of the fact that one Ukrainian leader, driven by his own ambition, sold his people to the Tsar of Moscow in order to get revenge on the Polish nobility. As a result, both the Holodomor and the war are a consequence of Bohdan Khmelnytsky's decision to lick the Moscow boot and betray Poland.

Because of Bohdan Khmelnytsky's pride and his decision to avenge the insult to the Polish nobility at any cost, he became a vassal of the Tsar of Moscow in order to have Moscow help him take revenge on the Poles. As a result, Ukrainians are still paying with their blood for his ambition.

Apart from my childhood I've only been living in Poland since 2024 so im not that well versed in the history tbh.

The territory of Ukraine was a vassal of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and Khmelnytsky had a conflict with a nobleman. The king did not take Khmelnytsky's side, and he sought a future suzerain. Initially, he attempted to become a vassal of the Ottomans, but later chose the Tsar of Moscow.

Sounds like zelensky and the rest of his regime laundering as much as possible.

Wasn't it a religious conflict where the orthodox Ukrainians didn't want to be ruled by Polish catholics and their jewish emissaries?

Orthodox preachers and monks openly called Khmelnytsky “the new Moses” or “God’s scourge” sent to punish the Poles and Jews for oppressing the true faith.

When the Cossacks swore allegiance to the Tsar at Pereiaslav (1654), Muscovite diplomats and clergy immediately interpreted it as the gathering of all Rus′ lands before the end — a fulfilment of the “Third Rome” prophecy.
