All my copes are really weak right now, and with the holidays coming up one after the other (Christmas :feelsree: New years :woke: and Valentines day :feelsrope:) I decided I was going to take up a new cope that would really capture all of my attention, and would benefit me somehow. So I decided I was going to try to learn a new language, probably Russian. Have any of you taught yourself a language, and if you have, do you have any advice on what I could do to learn without having to take nigh classes or things like that?

That is a good idea if you think it would help you. For me though what helps most is not acknowledging these holidays. It's just another day for me. I have no lover and never will to exchange Christmas presents and valentines with or kiss as soon as the clock turns midnight on New Year's Day. So I don't acknowledge these meaningless holidays and just continue to live my life, I shut the tv off and my internet and it's as if they weren't occurring.

I cant do this mostly because of my parents, they make it impossible for me to be able to completely ignore the holidays.

I was fortunate enough to be able to explain to my parents that I don't like holidays and don't want to be bothered with them and they accepted that and leave me to my room during these events. I even told them I don't want to celebrate my birthday, it's been like this for the past few years and they respect me enough to not buy me a cake but they are still nice enough to ask me if there's anything I wanted to buy for me, but they skip putting it into a present and just give it to me as is. I understand most people probably wouldn't have parents that would be this understanding but this is what works for me and prevents me from feeling suicidal during these holidays.

Learning a new language is a great lifefuel, I'm learning japanese and it helps me cope a lot.

Sounds really nice, My family is big on holidays and wouldn't allow this, but your parents seem very understanding I really wish mine were aswell

Japanese sounds really hard to learn, hows your progress going? and do you have any tips for a complete beginner on a new language?

I'm doing fine until now, I can understand stuff aimed at kids (and porn, since it usually has simple writing).
As for tips I don't know any specifically for russian, but having a strict schedule helps. To learn a new language you need to immerse yourself as much as possible. I would recommend everyday having at least 1 or 2 hours dedicated solely to learning, and listening to songs, watching movies, youtube videos, expose yourelf to the language as much as you can.
Also are you planning to take classes or self learn?

Takin classes is good, having a teacher who knows the language is always helpful since you can ask questions directly.

>learning a meme language like Russian
KEK

Learn Spanish or Chinese. At least they'll be useful.

I know spanish already, and I want to learn chinese after russian since the characters are so different. That why I chose russian because there are some letters I recognize and some I dont, and then I can move to Chinese where absolutely everything is different and a lot harder to learn.

Good cope, I’m considering Italian

good choice OP
