Why am I rotting to get my master's and work in Uni when I could make so much more doing truck driving?

Granted driving local deliveries isn't easy, and my parents would be disappointed in me forever, but man that's tempting.

at least you are a functional student

Truck work is very vocational, brocel.

It burns quite a bit, you are never at home and honestly you can eat them from the truck, well..., they leave a lot to be desired.

Getting involved without a vocation is not worth it, in my opinion.

The thing is it's not an easy job bro. You are always on the road, many of them eat very unhealthy because they have no choice, your dinner is gas station food. So sure they make $70k+ but many of them are also easily working 70 hours a week.

Can you elaborate on the last sentence?

It's local you're only doing like 2 nights on the road a week

You can find and fuck cheap "lot lizard" whores

I don't know where TS is but there can't be many places that will let you work 70 hours a week. Lorry and bus drivers for obvious reasons are restricted in how many hours they're allowed to work per week (and the amount of driving is less than the amount of work). However you have periods of time where you're not working but you're also not at home free to see your friends and family (probably doesn't apply to people on this forum) and do what you want.

Also if you are prepared to take the time and effort, and if your employer allows, the range of cooking equipment for lorries is quite good. Sometimes gas stoves are banned in particular.

When I worked at the grocery store we had different truck drivers for different vendors. Most of them worked 12 hours days 6 days a week. They made a fuck ton of money from overtime. But you could tell the job was taking a toll on them. Personally it's just not a job for me, I couldn't do it. The pay is nice but most of them are raging alcoholics....that should tell you something about the job

Truck driving sounds great if you got reasonable hours. It doesn't seem like any of them do, though. They're pressured to slave constantly.

In Canada, forklift drivers can make $80k a year:dafuckfeels:.

I can't drive for shit on a normal car, I wouldn't be able to last a day in a truck

I know a guy who earns 3000 euros but very long routes and he has no life.

If working all day is your dream then go ahead.

Can you elaborate on the last sentence?
It's something you have to like, more than doing it for the money, because in the end, if you don't like it, you're going to suffer a lot from being a truck driver.

If your country has lorry drivers who are raging alcoholics, working 72 hours a week, that sounds like a dangerous as fuck third world shithole. Not trying to offend you, just being honest. Whereabouts is that do you mind saying?

UK and EU rules:

Driving hours

The main EU rules on driving hours are that you must not drive more than:

  • 9 hours in a day - this can be extended to 10 hours twice a week
  • 56 hours in a week
  • 90 hours in any 2 consecutive weeks
You must record all driving you do under EU rules on a tachograph.

Breaks and rest

The main points of EU rules on breaks and rest are that you must take:

  • at least 11 hours rest every day - you can reduce this to 9 hours rest 3 times between any 2 weekly rest periods
  • an unbroken rest period of 45 hours every week - you can reduce this to 24 hours every other week
  • a break or breaks totalling at least 45 minutes after no more than 4 hours 30 minutes driving
  • your weekly rest after 6 consecutive 24-hour periods of working, starting from the end of the last weekly rest period taken

California, USA
We are pretty much a third world country in many ways but there's still a lot of rich people and a huge working class holding the ship together

When I made that post I did actually wonder if it was the USA lol. Definitely well on the way to going Third World. :( I remember hearing about illegal immigrant Mexican drivers in the USA, where two would take one cab and one would eat/sleep while the other drove, (so the lorry was continuously or near continuously moving), and they would open a hole in the bottom of the cab to just go to the toilet on the road (whether driving or stationary). Idk how true that is though.

DBDR released a video on this a fortnight ago:

This, but in america truck drivers are exempt from overtime so most companies dont pay it.

Really? In cuckfornia they have to pay overtime if you work over 8 hours in a day. Probably varies by state

Federal vs State wage requirements are different. Also most OTR truckers get paid by the mile.

Thats one good thing about california; their labor laws are amazing. In the rest of the country we dont have any workers rights

True but that's only because the government in California is corrupt (in bed with the labor unions). Also the government is pretty much pro socialism. Anyways, there's lots of hard working people here. I would argue more so compared to other parts of the country (having lived there)
