A transgender girl in Virginia was reportedly barred from seeking shelter in her middle school's locker rooms during a safety drill last month.
The student, who has not been publicly named, was unable to go into the boys' or girls' locker rooms during the lockdown drill at a school in Stafford as teachers discussed where the girl should go, WUSA reported.
According to a Facebook post from Equality Stafford, an LGBTQ rights group in Stafford County, Virginia, the girl was told to sit on gym bleachers while teachers debated where to place her.
The girl was eventually made to sit in the locker room hallway until the drill was complete.
"During an event that prepares children to survive an attack by actual assailants, she was treated as if she was so much of a danger to peers that she was left exposed and vulnerable," the post from Equality Stafford said.
