I live in NYC and work for a prestigious consulting firm. I am by all means part of the nations elite. I work with Hedge Fund managers and Private Equity firm execs and regularly get drinks with them. However, living in NYC is pricy. I, like many young professionals, must split an apartment because any place that is close to my work is insanely expensive. I also can't afford escorts because in NYC they are, like rent, very pricy. Not to mention the law is not on my side here. I would not do it simply for the fact that it is illegal, even if I could afford to do so.
