I love tor, use it all the time, I even host a couple of nodes to help the network, I2P is pretty fun to play with too

Go on Tor and use the Torch search engine

I used it twice to find CP but couldn`t find any

is using regular linux enough for safety or do you need to use tails?

depends on what your doing, l inux provides more privacy and saftey by being less targeted, but for doing anything on tor that's actually illict I like using tails, either on a seperate computer or in a VM

Used to use Tails for like a year or two. It's not necessary, it's better for if you are using a public library computer or are a whistle blower or something. If you are buying drugs or whatever you can just use Tor Browser.

Also ahmia.fi is objectively the best tor search engine

Generally set the tor browser to it's safest setting, and don't download, stream videos or anything that requires JavaScript.

You can go an extra step further, enter the about:config page and set Javascript.enabled to false to completely disable it.

Good advice

However, many clearnet sites will break so it's not advised to do that if you're gonna access clearnet sites as well.

It's also a good idea to avoid any services with ads cause those are generally fake copycats of existing services or anything that forces you to enable JS is probably untrustworthy.

Most if not all secure and trusted onion services operate without the need for Javascript to be enabled in the browser.

Accurate, I'd also add to verify that your on the correct onion link for that site, plenty of people try to mimic onion links of popular services. Tor.taxi generally has decent links to most popular sites but idk if its been updated recently haven't checked in a while.

Yeah, it's always good to just save or bookmark the links somewhere secure.

Agreed, I like using keepassxc
It really depends on your threat model, like if you're fucking schizocel doing definitely fun and legal things then tails is probably the way to go.

If you're simply browsing and exploring then just use the browser in it's safest setting.

Oh I fully agree, I don't even follow best practices myself, but for most people who just want to browse around on tor just using the tor browser is perfectly fine

I tried whonix too but eh it's a VM that just TANKS my resources tbh so I don't use it much.

that's fair, I like whonix and don't have very much resource issues since I have a pretty decently spec'd system but I usually still reccomend tails to most people as its typically easier for most to undrestand. But typically if i'm doing anything on tor I just use a vm with my gpu passthrough to it with a arch install

I prefer to use niche search engines, but I plan on buying a PC soon, so I'll keep your word in mind.

kek reddit is on there
