I teach undergraduates at the university level myself (history, philosophy and political science) and I routinely engage in these sorts of contentious debates in order to enhance the dialectical and critical reasoning skills of my own students. I've often played the devils advocate for purposes of encouraging students to take up the more palatable or rational side of a particular case, controversy or argument and whenever someone does have the requisite intellectual fortitude and courage to challenge my own suppositions I debate them intensively but always give them high praise for being bold enough to assert their convictions. Your prof may have been doing something similar. What was his rebuttal to your points?
He was saying that your gender is created by society and that someone can switch it by taking on the characteristics of another gender. I told him that the roles attached to men and women are influenced by biology. For example I said that women often take on more submissive roles because they are biologically more submissive
Well I would have done something similar if that conversation was in any way thematically related to the curriculum that we happened to be studying. The Socratic method is often employed to enable students to arrive at some higher truth by disputing a particular proposition until such time as they are able to understand it more clearly. That being said, I fully merit your own interpretation as I don't find there to be much probative weight to the notion that gender is culturally or socially constructed. If that were the case then you could make the same argument for race or ethnicity being culturally constructed which of course nobody would ever suggest as it would offend the fragile sensibilities of the woke mob. Well at least I can see how an argument like that could logically be reconciled with the scope of an anthropology course. But yeah, that is entirely different if he was presenting that as fact or asserting that on the basis of his academic authority. Arguments from authority are often spurious as that is usually all they have to vindicate their propositions. I assume this was not a particularly elite institution of higher learning that you are attending? The more you move up in to the more heavily endowed and prestigious universities, the more prolific this sort of ideological indoctrination becomes.

I used to teach at CC's myself and so I know exactly what the professional profile of most of those faculty is going to look like. Most of them have intermediate graduate credentials (MBA;s, MS;s, MA's, etc.) whereas a few of them have terminal degrees (PhD's, EdD's, JD's). But your are absolutely correct, academia is extremely competitive and not only do you have to at least have a professional degree or terminal degree to work at a four year institution, you usually have to have been published in a peer review journal.
