. All those decades of claiming and projecting that NATO is literally surrounding them and just about to attack them any day now, and a year into the war, all their own government could show was a map with almost no American bases in hundreds of kilometres near Russia.

The biggest concentrations of US forces near Russia are in Turkey, South Korea and Japan, but Russians keep quiet about them and never bring that up, because antagonizing nonwhites while being white would be bad for their reputation among their Third World allies. That, and they don't actually give a shit about Americans having bases anywhere near them, they know no one's going to attack them. They are the ones who want to attack, as they believe that they have an inalienable right to subjugate the rest of EE, and anything stopping them from doing so is, in fact, an attack on them.
