Friendship does not develop primarily over shared interests. It develops from having similar looks, and THEN common interests. Just like women are interested first in looks and THEN personality.

That's a misconception, looks continue to impact heavily even in already formed and stable relationships, providing HALO effect, etc. There are plenty of cases about divorces due to male hairloss, for example.
