These days having peace and quiet in your own home seems almost unattainable. The apartment I'm living in now isn't as bad as the one I used to live in, but I still have to deal with barking dogs, loud talkers, people blasting music, etc. It also seems ever since covid, there's people lighting off fireworks every night rom july through september. It also doesn't help that I work 3rd shift sometimes, which means sometimes I have to sleep during the day. But even at night there's a lot of noise. I'm a light sleeper and when I wake up to a loud noise I'm instantly alert and annoyed and usually I can't fall back asleep.
Even people who live alone and own a home can't escape constant noise. Raymond from "Raymond thoughts and mind" bought a house in a supposedly secluded area very specifically to avoid constant noise and to have peace and quiet and he says he still has to deal with hearing loud barking dogs all day. The only way to really avoid this would be to have a house on a large plot of land where there's no neighbors within a quarter mile radius. Unfortunately finding a place like that (that also has electricity, plumbing, internet, etc.) is next to impossible unless you're rich.
Part of the problem is people are so isolated and atomized these days due to being introverted and terminally online. We no longer really have proper local communities. People don't even know who their neighbors are these days, so they don't know or care who's sleep they're disturbing. And no matter how respectfully you go about it, if you approach your neighbor and ask them to do something about their dogs that bark all day, or to turn down the music because it's 2AM, they'll likely lash out at you and end up holding a grudge against you for life. Lesson learned the hard way.
