Idk I'm mostly listening to oldschool hiphop,underground hip hop and Lo-fi and I must say that I really enjoyed the music that came out this year.

That's a common misconception. A lot of the reason popular music is mostly about love or sex and it's short and clean sounding has to do with songwriting. If I wanted to write a 15 minute epic about, idk, dragons or some shit, it would be easy because I can just keep adding parts and take big, long ambient breaks

But writing sincerely about love or loss or longing and making it sound clean and short, that's hard without sounding really cheesy. So take an artist like Coldplay, that started out with more rocky, band oriented tracks. What happened was, they got older and were able to whittle away at their ideas until they were more lean, and that made them more universal, which made them more popular.

I'd love to be able to write something as simple as Magic. Two chords (unless you count the transitional A chord), yet it still grabs the ear.
