I woke up and went online and saw the headlines about a new alleged war in Iran and it turns out they are just firing missiles at eachother, with all the media hype I assumed it was a ground invasion.

Nothing ever happens.

WWII changed the world for good. They don't want things to get out of control again, it's only proxy wars and skirmishes since the 50s.

Yes, it seems Iran is more focused on attacking local US forces to them such as ones near the gulf as their air defenses aren't as modern compared to the carrier task groups.

The carriers would be a strategic target for the Iranians though as even heavy damage would take it out of action and affect American air power, but the Americans do know this anyway.

Everyday I become more doubtful another great war will ever happen.

Just like in the first Cold War, military conflict is limited only to regional proxy wars, with wars between the great powers being almost completely out of the question. WW2 was so economically devastating and traumatic that all world leaders since then have had the understanding that a repeat of a conflict on this magnitude is simply not worth the geopolitical advantages they might gain from it.

At last someone with a brain. Even the most unhinged leaders like Kim Jong Un are absolutely aware and hesitant of using nuclear warfare when it means Mutually Assured Destruction and the moment they press the button they can kiss their government bye bye. Not like anyone has the balls to currently challenge USA as of now tbh, they've taken put like three important people in the span of a few months.
