Imagine height as a box and whiskers plot. 5'8 to 5'10 is average. 5'8 is the lower quartile and 5'10 is the upper quartile. 5'9 is smack in the middle; the median. Anything below 5'8 is short and anything above 5'10 is tall. Any male who is 6'4+ is like a giant (maximum) and anything lower than 5'5 is a miget (minimum).
However, I expect everything in the plot to increase by one in the coming years, so 5'9 will become the lower quartile, 5'10 becomes the median, and 6'0 will become the upper quartile... you get the gist.

I actually knew a guy who was 6'0 and was very empathetic to manlets because he used to be one when he was in high school. It was basically a night and day difference for him since girls would never talk to him when he was a manlet in high school, but in college, it just changed when he got taller.

Very true. But at least it's a good way to gauge who your real friends are. They'll show up when you call them, or better yet, they'll call you. In this way, I know I have a lot of acquaintances, but very few friends.
I actually passed on seeing a band I really like a couple months ago because I didn't think anyone I knew in town would go. I mentioned it to a colleague, and he said, "Man, you should've called me!"
I'll put that to the test next time I go to a show.
