They obviously despise us, but most people couldn't care less if we're dead or not. Hating someone means you at the very least care enough to be hateful.

It's comparable to society's attidude towards homeless people: you don't like them, they smell, they piss and shit all over the streets, but besides these annoyances you don't really care about them. You don't go up to them and assault them, you just ignore them and try to pretend they're not even there.

This is what we are to women and most men, NPCs that sometimes could be really annoying, but usually just background elements to their world.
