I know a few average looking guys who found 'the one'. Within a few months they were either talking about having discovered a new fetish, loving to hear about or watching the girl banging other dudes (because they totally weren't worried about losing their girl/ wife by not bending to her wants) or pretending to be unaware of her escapes saying shes just working late... after she leaves they got desperate and begging for her back. Nothing disgusts me more then begging for a whore who treats you like shit.

The pool of women one could possibly have something long-lasting or short-lasting with scales non-linerarly with attractivity. An 8/10 or higher will have orders of magnitude more success with women.
Whereas a 4/10 or less could, out of a pool of 1000 women, realistically maybe have a long-lasting relationship with 1 or 2 of them, an 8/10 or beyond could pick whichever. He is not limited by demography, ethnicity, intelligence, geography, culture, money, religion. Only female outliers would not desire him. He himself is enough, whereas a 4/10 will always need to bring something besides his bodily presence to the table (money, "personality", status, ..).

I think when people say "One girl who loves me" they mean "Any number higher than zero." I don't think anyone means "Exactly one. Two women who like me, I have no tolerance for that." I think people know that if someone is attractive to one person, they're probably attractive to other people.
Very high IQ, only exception would be guys who don't put themselves out there, if you just know 3 women and only 1 loves you it's already an excellent ratio.
Reality is complicated. There are plenty of low SMV guys or mentalcels who manage to get into a relationship by luck or random circumstances. As the OP notes, usually this is an unstable relationship where the guy becomes a literal cuck or is in a constant state of anxiety over whether the girl will dump him. If you read ER’s autobiography, you will see he idealizes relationships and projects his fantasies of how great it’d be to have a GF onto all these couples he sees. Naive af. He didn’t realize that a lot of guys in relationships are suffering, and then after the relationship ends they will continue to suffer.
