tbh my first thought when I heard "based" was Plato's Theory of Forms. where everything created by humans is based on an 'ultimate ideal' of what that thing should be, also known as a Perfect Form. so for example every chair is based off the 'ultimate ideal' of a chair: there is a Perfect Form of a chair that does not exist in reality and is only in our minds. and whenever we build a chair we're seeking to emulate that Perfect Form and make it a reality. I always took "based" as "based on the Perfect Form". so when you say something is based you're saying it's like perfection or the highest ideal materialized
