When you look at nature, it is a wild place to be in, no matter who you are, the strongest or smartest animal wins every time. The 'alpha male' gets all the females, the stronger beat the weaker, etc. And there is a reason for this. When in a society, if you are a higher rank, you have an easier life. Just imagine an ape being the leader of their tribe: Because he is the one in charge, he has more food, more partners, more protection in case of a war or something, so its kinda obvious that the leaders will procreate more, passing their behavior on via natural selection, and their descendants will desperately try to reach that spot where their life is easier.
The sad part of this is that we, humans, considered rational animals, are just stupid monkeys with a bigger brain, and you can see by yourself that there are hierarchies everywhere in human societies, and while the 'alphas' or the 'bosses' use their strength or intelligence to have an happier and easier life, the bottom of that pyramid suffer the consequences of being put in a situation of isolation and lack of power because of something they have no control of.
The statement 'humans are rational animals' is the most laughable shit i have ever heard. In the end, we are animals that obey their instincts, and the weak will perish. Simple as that.
