I think younger people buy them nowdays. A base model Nissan LEAF is about 30k, I think you can get tax breaks on them as well.

As far as the EV you better get used to it because the combustion engine is in its final stage. Right now it's a niche market because the lithium technology is so new in the automotive industry. That's going to change. Ford, GM, and Volvo have vowed to go all EV by the middle of next decade. Others will follow. There are fewer moving parts, no gears as the power and is so wide, and Teslas are fucking quick.

I got an ebike last year cuz I wanted to cycle but couldn't cuz of fibro/arthritis degeneration and these things are outselling cars in parts of EU. It's awesome... smooth, quiet power on tap. E-assist augments your power so it really helps someone like me who doesn't have the strength.

God forbid technology evolves.

I would wait a while. The EV is in its infancy and like I said is niche/luxury market right now. Technology and quick charge tech will improve by several folds by then. Big money is going into torque research for trucking, larger trucks/cuv applications. If you want a second car and need a new expensive hobby go for it. But it isn't until the middle of next decade where the EV will be as within reach and streamlined.
