It really isn't that clear cut is it?

You have certain aspects that, at least in theory, allow people a lot more freedom than in the EU and many other parts of the world. You have more freedom of speech and expression for example. At the same time, there is a much higher risk to get assaulted and get your freedom heavily restricted by the police for menial reasons (just looks at all the traffic stop videos where some power tripping cop escalates). This is very unlikely to happen like that in most EU countries.

Large corporations today maintain intricate relationships with the government and use regulations as a means to destroy competition and maintain a de facto monopoly. It’s called crony capitalism - the state grants favors and contracts to companies in return for political loyalty.
