The true purpose of the age verification law is to have a catch-all law

Why have an age verification if you can just put in fake date?

That's very easy: to have a universal law to use for arbitrary punishments.

They know companies and people lie with the birth date, and they sort of accept this.

However, when they need to punish you for political reasons, this law will be used against you.

Same with the porn laws; they know everyone watches porn, and they do know that most people are law abiding citizens, so it can be difficult to punish a certain person, but with this law, no one is immune to it.

Which is why porn is widespread in some places despite the law. Western friends, this kind of thing is coming for you, but without the safety and ability to fix potholes!

Unlike in some countries, the porn laws will be not just used against people who make blanket criticism against the government, but also DEI violators, mildly right wing...so be careful brocels!

Of course it is, all the "protect children from porn/radicalization" is nothing moe than smokescreen to galvanize useful idiots into supporting this.

@LeFrenchCel (additional ping since you reposted)

Westerners tend to only focus on "they will watch me => control" but they never think of what these laws can be hypothetically used for.

@Cryotron here is Russian. He surely knows about these seemingly mundane but broad laws.

Ask any UKcel or Aussiecel and they'll know about this bs because they're technically the first to implement this beyond just pornographic sites which is what some US states and france did prior.

Yes, it's old idiots who don't know jackshit about the internet attempting to regulate us all, you ever wonder why all these laws are happening within the same year? It feels like some kind of ulterior motive is behind this beyond just 'protecting kids' and 'stopping terrorists' some countries like the UK have even considered putting these measures on VPN providers.

Funnily enough Mullvad VPN had one of their commercials banned from airing on UK TV, along with an outdoor one which was also banned, so they made a whole publicity stunt about it in London.

can't wait for the
'HAVE YOU GOT YER LOICENSE FOR THAT VPN SON?' memes

China, Russia and pretty much any other authoritarian country have gone for either outright bans or developed their own alternatives such as Max in Russia or WeChat in China.
