If there was no natural social elevator for these guys, you would have to compete with them for virtually every woman in their vicinity, making dating impossible if you're sub-8.
By giving these men god status, they can be safely seperated from the mediocre social works world, and people can be more ok with their own mediocraty as they view these male idols as "separate" and "unnatainable".
