I mean it probably shouldn't be a surprise 'cause Stanley Kubrick also directed the masterpiece that was A Clockwork Orange. It's paced beautifully, the descent into madness. And the cinematography is just gorgeous, well ahead of its time. I can't believe I never watched it till now.

Not exactly news when it's one of the highest rated films by critics out there but okay

Dr. Sleep it’s sequel is also fantastic. :feelsclown:

Not quite as good as the original mind you as very few movies new or old out there can match or even top the Shining’s greatness but yes I’d definitely say Dr. Sleep was a very competent and satisfying sequel and now that you’ve seen the original movie hopefully you’ll watch Dr. Sleep next. :feelsYall:

P.S: Stephen King notoriously hated Kubrick’s movie adaptation of his work for numerous reasons so just letting you know that as well letting you know there’s another I believe made for TV version of The Shining out there that more closely follows King’s book which he I believe may of commissioned to have made himself or somehow gave the approval to and of course which he wildly enjoys more than Kubrick’s version but Kubrick’s version remains preferred by the majority of the fanbase as it’s far more of a well done eldritch horror type of adaptation and basically removes all of the wackiness, stupidity and cringe scenes that are in his book which he apparently cherishes but only serve to undermine his own story as a horror classic. :feelsugh:

The Dr. Sleep movie adaptation follows Kubrick’s version but King is apparently happy with how it turned out as it seemed to reconcile Kubrick’s vision with his own. :feelsokman:

King had a thing about his own struggles with alcoholism and wanted the Shining to end in fire whereas in Kubrick’s vision we see instead that it ends in ice with Jack Torrance freezing to death but Dr. Sleep reconciles King’s vision by having Dan Torrance die a hero by burning the hotel down and sacrificing himself in the process and the Dan “Danny” Torrance character also battled his own demons with alcoholism just like his old man. :society:

I'll definitely check out Dr. Sleep. And bizarrely The Shining only got mixed reviews upon release.

I agree 100%. The movie contains so many interesting themes and ideas with all the theories on the meaning of th maze as well as the hotel itself.

The maze was genius on the part of Stephen King.

Misery is better.

Disagree but it was good. How come no one ever talks about how Stephen King's main characters all tend to be writers? :lul:
