To understand this story, you need to understand an important philosophy on PUAHate. When it existed, it had a very lax moderation policy (i.e. rules weren't enforced strictly). There was a reason this worked — it was a high trust society. The members were able to regulate themself (for the most part).
When .is was founded in 2017, the PUAHate veteran and former r/incels janny @Ryo_Hazuki wanted to see this policy moved forward. Unfortunately, he hadn't realised that the landscape had changed — a realisation that would hit him like a freight train.
In the mid 2010s, shortly after the end of SlutHate (PUAHate's successor), there was an epidemic of BBC spammers. There weren't many of them, but they were so relentlessly committed to flooding anywhere they went with threads about the genitalia of Sub-Saharan African men. Several sites were rendered absolute shit because of this; they were spreading like a tumour. One of them, @Savas, ended up joining .is almost immediately after founding.
Waves upon waves of BBC spam threads leaked into the forum, making it utterly unusable. While Savas was banned, he came back on alts. Ryo_Hazuki recalls two of them (@Westcoastincel and @MilkTeaPill), though he mentions Savas had dozens of them.

The situation was so bad that it lead to the banning of VPN registration, and the implementation of border control. All to stop the BBC flood. These still exist today to deter BBC spamming.

This response was voted by @Sans as the "#1 funniest ban appeal response" in a video which has since been deleted.
