Like being a carefree party guy like Gary King in The World's End.

I do think it's mostly about context though. If you have loads of friends who are like you like you (as it's easier to have when you're younger) and ideally live somewhere that is compatible with how you are, suddenly it looks pretty cool again.

Also women can look OK doing it way more than men, maybe largely because it's easier for them to find other women who are like that.

I guess it's less about how you are and more about whether you fit in.

Brutal thing is that traits and actions being seen a cool is dependent on the looks of the person doing it.

Also... when women are incompetent it's seen as cute, funny, quirky.

When men are incompetent it's seen as them being a failure and useless.

That's probably part of what fuels this shift because when young men are incompetent that's OK.
