Essentially, someone missing a leg or an arm is counted as injured, but in today's world, he might as well be considered dead, at least in terms of his romantic life. When his wife sees that he's missing a limb or has a disfigured face, chances are she won't even return to Ukraine.

Not to mention it's also a massive drain on healthcare and social resources. In fact it may be worse than dead soldiers because you don't have to feed/care for them, while disabled soldiers can't work in many jobs.

Yep, that's an interesting perspective. Ukraine is definitely facing grim prospects. It wasn't an ideal place before the war, and it'll likely be an even more forgotten country after the war. The sad reality is that even those who survive may not have much to come back to, as their women have often been quick to find boyfriends or husbands in other countries. It's a truly ridiculous turn of events, and perhaps a reflection of today's times.
