Almost Every new update is just bloat adding gimmicky features that don't change the core gameplay of the game, They are trying way to hard at making the game into some kind of adventure game hybrid isn't focusing on the sandbox aspects of the game. The new enemy the warden is a prime example of this baffling new direction of gameplay design, It's a ridiculously overpowered enemy that exists to force players to play the game the way Mojang wants them to play it. You either sneak around or get raped by an enemy designed to literally murder you instantly if you don't.

Minecraft is not an adventure game and never will be, You can use Minecraft to make adventure maps by the core game is not an adventure game, The combat is not designed for it and game is not balanced around it. Minecraft is a sandbox survival game, The last decent update that Mojang has put was 1.13 and that's only because the revamped the swimming mechanics to make movement around water a lot better, The Caves and cliffs update is good in theory but poorly is executed, The caves part of the update being the better half to the cliffs part which still doesn't come close to matching the solid overworld generation of the old beta versions. I personally don't like the massive caves as despite looking cool are usually empty outside of ores making traveling through them tedious.

Finally they often add features that are completely fucking useless and literally add nothing to the game, The "archeology" update being a prime example of this. The entire update revolves around a mechanic where you click on a piece of sand so you can get pottery which literally does nothing, The other big addition is adding a retarded looking mob called the "sniffer" which has mechanic of finding you flowers and that's it. Literal bloat update

If it was up to me I would have updated this game in a completely different way by focusing on the mechanics that would relate to sandbox gameplay. Notch added weather in beta 1.5 and is hasn't changed since then why not make a change to that, Weather is global if it's raining at spawn it will be raining at the world border why not change so that certain biomes have different kinds of weather which could for example have effects on how quickly crops will grow. Why not update the game to make buildable ships moveable, Mods have done have years so there's not excuse of it being not possible within the game engine, It would be very cool to sail the seas with ships that you literally built and you could expand the mechanic to airships.

But no instead mojang wants to focus on gimmick mechanics that have very niche uses instead of updating the core gameplay to improve it in a way that changes the way players play through the game.

I have not played recent updated versions of the game long enough to get far and see new stuff.

I can understand where they're coming from. Minecraft is *the* best selling game of all time, so it makes sense why they don't want to shake the boat too much even if it means ignoring obvious design issues just because they were there from the start.
For example, the progression system is a jumbled mess. Wood --> Stone (Literal seconds) --> Iron (Few minutes) --> Diamonds (A couple of hours) And then progression comes to a complete halt. Hours and hours without any progress until you obtain enchanted gear, and the thing about the Minecraft enchantment system is that it's OP as fuck. The vast majority of progression is just in the enchantments. So all of a sudden you go from gear you've obtained into the first few hours into endgame gear

Mojang clearly wants to implement new features, but they can't *really* update the game in meaningful ways so they resort to meme updates like camels, sniffers, and archelogy. 1.20 is the perfect example of this

^ Wtf is this? Retextured wood, useless mobs, and completely optional cosmetics. Took the same amount of time as goated updates like 1.13 and 1.16 btw

Atleast they're aware of this, which is why they've switched from the yearly update model (1.14, 1.16, 1.17) to more frequent 'drops' (1.21.4, 1.21.6), which are basically smaller but more frequent updates. It's not a perfect solution, but atleast they're trying. (Big updates are still a thing, just not yearly now)

This is good game design btw.
Creepers do the exact same thing but you don't complain about it since you're used to it

Mojang is just malding because modders always come up with better ideas.

Twilight Forest. Orespawn. Aether. Chocolate Quest.

They need to take the Binding of Isaac route and implement these mods into the base game, pretending to be original isn't working out for them.

There will be massive backlash because 'it doesn't feel minecrafty enough!11!!' even doe it's kino. People just love to complain even though you can revert to previous versions whenever you want

People just want more dungeons and shit. Twilight Forest and Aether would fit right in.
I played that as a kid
Nice

When I play minecraft I have to play a pre-caves and cliffs update game. The new caves look cool but they take all of the fun out of mining.

You never get that feeling of turning a corner and being surprised by a mineshaft or diamonds, everything is out in the open and finding diamonds is annoyingly easy now

No they aren't, Creepers die in 2 to 3 hits from most swords and don't have a ranged attack at all. Warden's have overpowered hard to dodge ranged attack that does an absurd amount of damage.

I agree, there's way too much fucking bloat. There's too many weird fucking Redstone tools that are extremely niche that old Minecraft could've done with the old tools, it just would've been more complicated to perform and build.

Minecraft should be fucking free

it was incredibly tedious and boring

Yes, Ive tried and its too much bloat, I better stick to the older versions

My only real gripe is that they are filling it with "progressive" propaganda.

Minecraft updates are disappointing when you compare its update quality to terraria

diamond is hard to find while iron is easy to find
