I think it’s more of a retroactive reassessment of the initial sighting after substantial development of further feelings in between. They fall in ‘love at first sight’ with every good looking person they see, but only to the few with whom it develops into a LTR do they retroactively reinterpret that initial attraction to have been love at first sight. The principle of disregarding the fact it was physical attraction that sparked this ‘love’ never becomes evident to them for some reason.
