Euthanasia is also a deeply complex social issue, especially around families choosing "euthanasia" for members who they no longer wish to support. Like, do you really want your senile grandparent spending your inheritance by surviving? Or is it better to take advantage of her addled state to convince her to sign the bit of paper that says "yeah, kill me".

It's difficult.

As for wanting to die, you can self-terminate pretty easy if you really want to go and you don't even need to get lowered into a vat of liquid metal by Edward Furlong to do it. Just save up some money and head to Europe or buy something deadly on the darknet. You don't need the man signing off on it for you.
