I think there's a big overlap between charisma/social dominance/'game'. Foids are very aroused by indicators of high status in men. They are also aroused by dark triad stuff like (the potential for) aggression, violence, cruelty etc.
Also due to the safety of current society verbal/social skills have got a boost, because it's legal to verbally embarrass/dominate someone, but not to attack them physically. In the past, if another guy started doing 'AMOG' tactics on you like mocking your clothes to girls, turning them around so they all have their backs to you, or even in a non-competing for females context, just making fun of you verbally, if you were stronger physically you could beat the shit out of or kill him and probably nothing would happen to you.
Closer to the current time you couldn't go that far, but you could challenge him to a boxing match or duel, depending on your class. Like you still might not be popular in those days but it would be more equal. Now the high verbal-IQ guys are protected by the police, and if you're in a venue, the workplace, university, nightclub etc. they have extra protection, increasing their advantage.
