I was a huge anime fan back in the day, but now I switched to visual novels, because they are what anime used to be; based, and kinda niche. vns depict mostly underage girls in sexual situations (based), and some even endorse rape.

Both are fictional but there's levels to it. A superhero flying and kicking people into space with a flick of a finger is in no way comparable to a realistic setting of romance. Just because it's animated doesn't mean it can't be based on real life events.
