I think it's either

1) They don't actually believe it, they just want to offer a bluepill to their loser kid so that he doesn't give up on life. They want to at least have a betabuxxer. It's some much better than a neet in the eyes of a parent

2) They believe it's still boomer times and a good college degree makes you a king
