Absence of desire, lack of interaction with the world, doing nothing for long periods. These and more would get you diagnosed with “ depression” nowadays, something many of us are often told we have. But back in the medieval period, these same things used to be the ideal for Buddhist monastics. Yet another example that autists aren’t built for the modern age. Born too late to be a monk, born too early to be euthanized, born just in time to be told I have a mental illness for having normal reactions.

I don't have a lack of desire though I just don't have any way to fulfill my desires.

I go through phases of both. Either ravenously craving for impossible things, or not being interested in sex/ thinking it’s gross

It’s more like an absence of craving, which in the second noble truth says is the cause of all suffering. Destruction of craving means you can never suffer anymore. We clearly do not have that, as we are suffering.

We are also not doing nothing because we are thinking and living inside our heads and on the internet.
