I don't just mean for survival, but for illogical reasons. To do things for illogical pleasure and curiosity, that's usually seen as something strictly human. But some animals, like elephants, are smart enough to lie to their moms so they can go have fun.
Like Wellington. His mother Wonky Tusk has established that he is not to go play with the humans. But you can see the wheels turn in his head.
The narrator is wrong, by the way. Wonky Tusk is Wellington's mother, not aunt.

- The humans are interesting and I want to see them.
- Mom won't let me see them.
- What if I can go see them and have Mom not know that I went to go see them?
