Learning it when I was trying to scanlate with groups, I was shocked. That's why the only thing most groups translated was yaoi slop. That's why if it wasn't yaoi slop it was romance slop. That's why the standards were so low.

When long-standing members of the community told me that at least 3/4 of them are foids, I just said nope and dipped, and the hobby completely died for me as a result of it. Having to work with women is hell and I have gotten more proofs of it, and I only have one thing to say to foids: thank you for ruining this once male-dominated safe space in every way possible.

Seriously, 3/4, it's like there was a huge replacement of the males who just fucked off because the space got invaded so bad.

Fun fact: it's full of indians and other people that don't know english for shit, so if you ever read a manga and wonder "who the fuck proofread this" it was probably an Indian. I know it cuz I had to deal with many personally and I wish I didn't have to. Also, yes, they seem to purposely enshittify the localization with objectively useless of wrong additions/modifications.

The scanlating scene is a toxic wasteland of drama between groups, too, and nowadays many have paywalled releases that don't even get scraped to weebdex and such aggregators, so that's that I guess. Also, wayyy more MTL than you'd think, and translators and proofreaders also use AI to do their jobs, even if they don't state they do MTL. It's honestly dead to me, learning Japanese to read them directly in Japanese was the best choice I could've made (still learning tho).

Hentai most affected, especially the niche or loli genres, since with the massive Exodus of actual subculture enthusiasts, foids refuse to touch it unless it's Yaoi and sometimes Yuri. Too many works aren't being translated cuz of the demographic and it sucks.

As for uploading, they are actually taking their manga off of mdex (unless they have some kind of deal which some groups have), especially those that monetize from it through donations or other means, because Mdex recently went legal and everyone is shitting bricks at the thought of Kakao or Square or any other publisher knocking on their door. Nowadays they use weebdex or other aggregators, or their own website (again, most paywallers do so and do not upload on mdex because they're either 3rd worlders who need some quick cash, or retards to exterminate in minecraft, or both). Some aggregators automatically scrape, so either way you get the content. But with the rhythm of contemporary life, it is untenable. I don't think there is a particular bias against them, since the solo scanlators typically aren't on discord or other such shitty ass places.

I partially disagree with you on this. I think at any time, at any place, Art is the way for a person to project their own conscience in the real world. While true that ideas are able to be conveyed through writing, painting and other forms of figurative art, I think that's a byproduct of the conscience thinking. Communication is without a doubt a core element of it, but I also think that communication requires a thought, idea and whatnot that is carried by something, in this case the "self" becoming a thing in the phenomenal reality.
