The job market has gotten WAY worse than it was back when I first started working.

Id rather rot playing dark souls rather than rot at some crappy job that expects me to do my best for chump change.

Need to be a university genius to supervise spotty teenage peasants flipping burgers in McDonalds bro.

i am currently going through this...tomorrow i'm doing another interview

I remember when I got hired for the second job I ever had. I literally just walked into the store, filled out an application (which was only a single page) and the assistant manager came out to the dining area and spoke with me for maybe 5 minutes. I didn't even realize it, but that was actually the interview, very informal. The next day I got a call telling me when my hours were and when to pick up my uniform. They didn't even ask for a resume or references. This was back in 2006, and while this was just a burger flipping job, you won't find an employer anywhere that has such a simple hiring process...not even for minimum wage work.

I recently got a second job (ergo why I've been posting less) but just trying to get this job was an absolute nightmare...and this is just part time, minimum wage. Employers these days make you jump through all sorts of hoops and hurdles for even the lowest paying jobs. The standard process now is to:

  1. Submit your resume
  2. Fill out application online
  3. Fill out a lengthy "personality" and or aptitude test online
  4. Wait for a call
  5. Get a call for an initial interview
  6. Show up in a pressed suit and tie along with a bunch of other applicants wearing pressed suits and ties all applying for the same minimum wage job
  7. Wait for a call for a second interview
  8. If you're lucky you'll get a second interview with someone higher up in the company
  9. Wait for a call AGAIN or, much more likely, an e-mail saying "we're considering other candidates at this time"
And considering how literally hundreds of people will apply to any given position even if it's minimum wage (job market equivalent of juggernaut law) that means you'll be doing the majority of the above steps many, many times before actually getting a job. Seriously looking for a job is like a part time (if not full time) job.

I know everyone here is wondering why I'm talking about the obvious...but the thing is, it wasn't always this way. And it wasn't even THAT long ago that things were different. When I first started working, many employers didn't even ask for a resume if it was minimum wage. What the fuck do people looking for a job right out of high school even put on a resume if they have no experience to begin with?

"B-But muh low unemployment numbers" For those who don't know, the "unemployment rate" (at least in the United States) is just the percent of people who are currently collecting unemployment. This heavily misleading statistic does NOT account for:

  1. People who quit their previous job (thus not eligible for unemployment)
  2. People who were on unemployment, but their benefits ran out but who are still unemployed
  3. People who were fired but were not able to get unemployment benefits because their employer fought it and won. (Most employers try to prevent you from getting unemployment benefits if you get fired because the more people who collect unemployment benefits who worked for them, the higher their unemployment insurance will be).
  4. People who have dropped out of the job market completely (This includes NEETs).
J-just be an plumber or eletrician bro! JFL at anyone who believes this meme. This is truly the epitome of boomer advice. This advice has been mindlessly thrown around for decades now. Many fell for this meme and as a result, these fields are as oversaturated as any. Trade schools have increased their tuition dramatically and most have long waiting lists because so many people are going.

At one of my old jobs, there was a guy who was a plumber, he was working 3rd shift and for minimum wage. He said it was decent pay if you got clients, but getting clients consistently was impossible. He was so desperate he was willing to travel up to an hour each way for a client. The fact that a plumber is working a second job, third shift, for minimum wage says a lot.

Almost forgot to mention this, but if you're ugly and one of your interviewers is a woman, your chances are very slim. If it's a woman over 45 you're chances are slightly better (in my experience, maybe you get a youth halo that could make you look acceptable enough if you're not TOO ugly) but if your interviewer is a millennial woman, IT'S OVER.

Tell me about it.

A picture (meme) speaks a thousand words.
You forgot the farce of "zero hour contracts".
Thus we enter the Job-Work experience paradox:

I'm sorry you had to go through all that, this is becoming par the course though.
Last year I went through a similar thing trying to get a better job than my current one (programming job where I get paid like a cashier wage)
It was so fucking bad it leeched out almost all my energy for the job hunt and I spent the rest of the year trying to find income in other ways.
  • send cv and cover letter, wait 2 weeks for reply
  • set up a 2 hour online programming test, do it and wait 1 week for an answer on my test results
  • arrange a phone interview, wait 2-3 days until interview, wait 2 weeks for a reply on how I did
  • finally they tell me with an automated email that they found someone better, better luck next time
You can see how for an even mildly 'prestigious' job they want to filter candidates so aggressively that even with all that time and effort, well over 1 month of total time spent, I didn't even see anyone face to face or visit their company headquarters... Honestly it was fucking over for that year at that point.

not much you can do except trying to abuse connections/nepotism, or just applying over and over

I aced an interview once and then they immediately told me I had a follow-up interview with a whole different group of people. Frankly I’m not fake enough nor do I have the stamina for two long-ass interviews back-to-back with a shitload of people.

I came out of there feeling dejected as shit. Then they fucking called me to tell me I wasn’t confident enough for the job. Dude not confident enough for your shit, dead-end job run by obese orbiters and landwhales?

This world fucking sucks for ugly people. It’s over.
ugly male have to be like a robot, never show any weakness or emotions, always do your job without any complains, always finish at time. JFL at this clown world

JFL at females choosing who gets employed J F L :reeeeee:

It's a joke, especially when you lack friends/family and contacts that could help! An immigrant stands a better chance for the shitty minimum wage/agency job else. Even if you have a good qualification or degree it doesn't help much if you have no experience, especially if over 30.
I notice you're from the UK. Yep, it's tough out there. Only 15 years ago, when I first entered the workforce, I could open up the paper and literally pick out which job I wanted. A brief, straightforward interview or an application form to complete and the job was probably yours--if you wanted it. Now, I get turned away from recruitment agencies for not having the precise experience necessary (for a simple manual labour role) or just because I'm not from the same country as the foreign bitches behind the desk.

I'm praying on a Universal Income TBH. With millions of workers set to be made redundant in the next couple of decades due to automation, I can't see any other way. (Aside from a mass culling of humanity.) :feelstrash:

Blackpilled AF. I’m tall, in decent shape but ugly facially. I find that 45yr old women always give me the best treatment in society because I’m a chad (to them).

-millennial women are repulsed by me

-gen x and baby boomers hate me because I sound autistic and they usually act very rude since mental illness was very taboo back then. They come from a generation where any sort of mental illness was institutionalized

45 year old women are your niche as an Incel. Whenever it comes to something like a job, always ask them. I assume most of you are looksmaxed to what you can do yet are still invisible to slim, young women. Therefore older women will see you as handsome male models and give you what you want in life.

It’s over for youngcels then

Thanks for the book recommendation! It's available for free on Library Genesis.

What I find most interesting so far are the author's mental blocks regarding feminism and immigration, which are pernicious aspects of capitalism that are nonetheless idealized by leftists. Even principled leftists who consider themselves to be opponents of neoliberalism, such as the author, always cave into its discursive hegemony on these two issues.

This creates a funny situation where the author tempers his reverence for the past, when working class conditions were better, by stating that females were "enslaved at the stove" then (i.e. not yet free to be exploited by capitalists and used as a dilution of the labor pool).
He also mentions that safety standards at work were worse in the past, leading to more incidents of workplace deaths; but he doesn't mention how these are matched and probably exceeded in the modern day by deaths related to alcoholism and drug overdoses in forlorn working class communities.

No cognitive dissonance even registers in the author's mind about the liberal tenet of feminism, since he is so faithful a believer in it. Immigration is another matter, however. He makes clear implications in his book about how immigrants are used to break up the bargaining power of British labor; about how if you petition against your poor working conditions at zero-hour contract employment, you'll just be sacked and replaced by an acquiescent immigrant. But he make sure to distinguish working class criticism of capitalism's exploitation of immigrants from "reactionary" criticism of immigration as such. This just goes to show how fearful he is of outright blaspheming liberalism and its psuedo-religious doctrine of "diversity" (which, like all religious doctrines, only serves to justify the status quo and the power of your masters).
