right now there's nothing in speculative fiction that describes anything like we're going through, it's all ridiculous alien invaders and shit

all science fiction has been built, no matter how wild, on really strong presuppositions, like the basic building blocks of society still being intact, and the enemy of stable society being mostly from outside rather than from within. there's almost no precedent of people just fucking things up on purpose, for both themselves and others. that shit is just crazy.
