This morning, at approximately 9:30 a.m. (UTC-6), a 15-year-old arrived at a college preparatory school armed with a 5.56 mm assault rifle. School staff attempted to block his path, at which point the assailant opened fire.

Two women were killed in the attack: a teacher and the school coordinator. The suspect was arrested shortly afterward when authorities arrived.

According to preliminary reports, the assailant is the stepson of a member of the Secretariat of the Navy (SEMAR) and claimed he had been "harassed" at school.
