To me it looks like the guy on the left has WEAK cheekbones-them being placed higher up doesn't help much if they're not protruding. I have low set but protruding cheekbones and I never look that bloated, and trust me my bloat gets pretty bad.

If you look at the man on the left, his sclerae are showing under below his pupils. This is aesthetically undesirable. His sclerae under his pupils would be fully covered if he had high cheekbones.
