Season 1 of BG there's this line when the president asks the leader of the military to step in to do security work: "There's a reason why you separate military and the police. One fights the enemy of the state. The other serves and protects the people." This was circa 2005, the same year SCOTUS ruled the police do NOT have a constitutional duty to protect someone. But the mass entertainment industry is happy to keep promulgating the myths that keep the toilet bowl continuing to flush.
