People are floating the thesis that the sudden hype around AI is a purposeful act to hype up "AI misuse" to bring in extreme censorship and completely cuck the internet and civilian use of computers for good. The AI schizopill.

This is by CSET, CSET mostly sets to influence politics and glowy policy. CSET is funded by openphil. Openphil is EA (Effectie Altruism), lesswrong's and bostrom's baby. SBF funded them a lot. These guys are almost directly responsible for the current restrictions on China's ability to buy GPUs or accelerators, you can spend some days and dig through it all and you will confirm it, they are also very much responsible for the indepth semiconductor embargos against China - certainly more heavy handed than anything Trump did and he was the one trying to frick with China's economy.

If they and the people who indirectly direct their philosophy had their way (Eliezer Yudkowsky and Bostrom), we'd either have all GPUs burnt (EY), or a one world government (Bostrom, see https://nickbostrom.com/papers/vulnerable.pdf ) that is permasurveillance all the time to prevent anyone from building AGI. EY of course would want nothing more than TSMC burning and progress stalled for some more years, but maybe he doesn't think this is an effective solution for now.

EA "AI policy" people literally salivate at cucking everyone out of AGI ("for your safety") - unless they're the ones building it over the course of hundreds of years instead of NOW!

Anyway, there is one thing to do, get the hardware, build AGI, accelerate, do it before the doomers get their way. It may be simpler than you think, endless low hanging fruit!
