'Socialism' in the west (such as the the political philosophies exhibited by Nordic Europe and Zohran Mamdani) is really just Social Democracy which is state capitalism therefore monopolies and oligarchs don't take over and make life shit for everyone because of the state interventionism such as in Norway via partially nationalising the oil industry and creating a sovereign wealth fund that directly funds education, healthcare and infrastructure which is why Norway is one of the safest, healthiest and most developed nations globally. Real socialism is far mor extreme than state owned grocery stores and companies.

The Democratic party is economically far right (libertarian) and socially very left (more than just slightly left leaning). Liberalism is incompatible with the social democratism we need in the world, this is even an issue for the Labour Party in the UK.
