I've actually said this since I was a kid since I found it so weird:
There are people who put the lives of animals above those of a human. They say things like "I would save a dog from a burning house than I would a person because people are assholes"
But isn't exactly THAT mentality what makes the person an asshole? Imagine being trapped inside a burning building, fighting for your life and struggling. You see someone, call out for help and they instead grab a stray cat and leave you behind to burn alive. Do you think that person is suddenly a "good person"?
It amazes me how many of the "empathy crowd (TM)" always unintentionally out themselves as the most rotten, disgusting and inhumane beasts on this planet in an ill-advised effort to appear as "decent"
