I was active in a small forum a few years ago where there was this member, call him Lucas. Lucas was 30 years old and extremely into alt-right / reactionary politics. Very misogynistic too. It seemed you could trust him because he was smart and learned, quoting stuff from Julius Evola or René Guénon.
One day, after years of inceldom, he got lucky with internet dating and found himself a girl, an older girl with far lower SMV than him, but still a girl.
The moment it happened, he started to post increasingly bluepill stuff about women, and then about politics / society / life in general. Last I heard of him, he was campaigning against Trump and defending Angela Merkel.
Ever since this episode, I've never been able to take politics seriously anymore, because your political beliefs are obviously extremely linked to your emotional state. There is no "truth" in politics. Politics is just an evolutionary tactic used by monkeys to gain higher status. A very low status man will lean extremist (communist, alt-right...) while a normie or high status man will lean normie, because his goal is no longer casting down the system but getting bigger benefits from it.
Does "idealism" exist in politics? I don't think so, because to really care about the happiness of other people, you must be happy and accomplished yourself first. This is an absolute prerequisite to avoid the temptation of egoism. And very few people are actually happy and accomplished.
When someone says "Angela Merkel is ruining Germany", what he really means is "Angela Merkel won't give me the status I deserve as a white man. And all these young immigrants will make me even more incel".
Pure idealism only exists in fairy tales about knights, heroes and crusaders. The funny thing is, even knights, heroes and crusaders were self-interested. Glory, salvation of their soul, you name it.
