Look at this documentary, this is the Boötes Void. It's one of the largest known structures in the observable universe. Over 330 million light years across, containing almost nothing. Not just empty, it’s absent. Where thousands of galaxies should be, there are only a handful, under 60 if I heard it correctly. It's literally a wound in the cosmic web. To astronomers, it’s sometimes called the 'Great Nothing'. But even that is an understatement.
if you were in the center of the void with a God like suit that protects you, you would face a kind of existential terror the human brain was never evolved to process. You would look in every direction and see nothing. No stars. No clusters. No light. No structure. Just nothingness as if you were staring at death itself, so infinite that your sense of space, time, and self would begin to dissolve.
And yet somehow primal humans fantasize about traveling to other galaxies
The Boötes Void is beautiful because it is untouched, because it has never known us. No signal from Earth has reached it, and no echo will return. It is a cathedral of silence, an untouched archive of deep time and it should remain that way. The idea of sending this species into such purity makes my skin crawl. This shit species called humanity doesn't deserve the universe.
